Abstract Urbanism

Generated maps

Urbanistics view generated by a genetic algorithm

The new series Abstract Urbanism consists of maps generated by a genetic algorithm that, following instructions set by Ultravioletto, open the doors to new interpretations of urban planning.
Much like the growth of a crystal, which unfolds according to seemingly simple and orderly rules yet results in intricate and mesmerizing structures, the algorithm developed by Ultravioletto operates through a similar principle of controlled unpredictability. It scatters digital seeds across a virtual field, each governed by predefined parameters that dictate their growth and transformation. However, despite these structured guidelines, the process gives rise to an organic, ever-evolving system where each seed follows its own unexpected and singular trajectory, leading to the emergence of unique and unrepeatable forms.

The machine, traces lines on a white sheet of paper whose direction, length and position are suggested by the algorithm. It’s the presence of the machine that unveils the performative nature of “Abstract Urbanism”; it is not the print or the NFT connected to it that is the subject of the work but the process that led to it.

Abstract Urbanism is available as NFT on FX Hash.
