Sulle orme del Duca

AR Game Experience for Galleria Nazionale delle Marche

An augmented reality experience that blends Renaissance heritage with interactive storytelling

Transforming Renaissance masterpieces into an interactive game for next-gen visitors

In collaboration with the direction of Galleria Nazionale delle Marche in the Palazzo Ducale of Urbino, Ultravioletto developed Sulle Orme del Duca (In the Footsteps of the Duke), an Augmented Reality iOS/Android mobile application designed to reimagine the museum experience through gamification and immersive storytelling.
Targeting younger generations and tech-savvy visitors, the project spans an interactive 10-step tour throughout the historic residence. Masterpieces from the Collection, such as the iconic Città Ideale (Ideal City) and Piero della Francesca’s Flagellazione di Cristo (Flagellation of Christ), were meticulously reinterpreted into 3D environments, allowing users not only to step into the canvases and explore hidden perspectives, but also to deeply engage with the underlying geometrical, architectural, and technical knowledge used to construct the masterpieces.

Beyond the paintings, our team of developers and creative coders reconstructed lost historical items and period artifacts, for instance, within the Sala del trono (Throne Room), re-inserting them into the physical space via real-time spatial computing. Merging historic legacy with gamified engagement, the application re-envisions the gallery route into an immersive discovery experience, offering guests enhanced insight into the Renaissance ruler’s heritage
