Mycelium @BASE Milano

AV Performance inspired by natural intelligence

Exploring the intersection of time and nature through an AI-generated mycelium

Mycelium is a live audiovisual performance by Ultravioletto exploring the hidden intelligence of fungal networks through real-time generative sound and visuals. Originally premiered at Videocittà in 2024 as a hybrid performance featuring a live performer interacting with the mycelium network, the project has since evolved. For TUTTA BASE at BASE Milano, it was presented in an expanded audiovisual format, where light and sound were generated live in real time by artists responding to an AI-driven simulation of fungal growth.

Presented within the installation Tempo Radicale, Mycelium echoed the natural behavior of fungi: branching, connecting, adapting. Just as mycelium links trees, soil, and organisms in silent communication, the performance created a space of connection between the organic and synthetic, the visible and the invisible. In dialogue with the curatorial theme Making Kin, the work invites audiences to imagine new, interspecies forms of relation and collaboration.
