Turning the physics of tomorrow into the experiences of today

A gamificated and interactive journey into supercomputing and magnetic-fusion science.

For the 2025 edition of Maker Faire Rome, Ultravioletto created The Energy Brain, an interactive installation that transformed Eni’s most advanced research fields into an accessible, immersive experience. Inside the Gazometro—today a symbol of technological innovation—visitors encountered a journey that connected the power of the new HPC6 supercomputer, capable of reaching 606 PFlops, with the frontier of magnetic-confinement fusion. Three interactive games introduced the principles of high-performance computing through intuitive, fast-paced play, including a four-station challenge that simulated the distributed logic of parallel processing.

The narrative then expanded into Fusion Bloom, a mirrored media tunnel where two facing LED walls visualized the reactions that power the Sun, the union of Deuterium and Tritium, and the behaviour of plasma inside a magnetic fusion reactor. Designed to merge scientific accuracy, storytelling and digital art, The Energy Brain offered a compelling way for the public to engage with the technologies shaping the future of energy.
