A generative forms ecosystem exploring textile intelligence

In collaboration with the renowned designer Patricia Urquiola and her team, we developed an interactive installation for the Heimtextile fair in Frankfurt, Germany. Urquiola’s stand, titled among-all, explored textiles as part of a shared material ecology composed of remnants, bio-based materials, technologies, and human presence. The exhibition was conceived not as a static container, but as a temporary ecosystem in constant transformation.

Within this framework, the morphology of the elements was highly organic. Ultravioletto contributed to the project through the creation of elements in coexistence: distributed, regenerative, and relational forms, akin to chromosomes of a living system. These elements expressed a shared narrative between human, material, and non-human intelligence, reinforcing the idea of an ecology built on interdependence and continuous exchange.

Nothing here is pure. Nothing is finished.

To develop these forms, we designed an artificial intelligence–based workflow that allows us to coherently expand an initial dataset and generate interactive 3D models inspired by a set of references. The environment hosting these models is itself dynamic and constantly evolving, responding to the presence and actions of the user.

Starting from an initial dataset of 20 mutations, a second generation of forms is produced through an AI-driven interpolation process between two “parent mutations.” From the 2D images of this second generation, artificial intelligence is used to extract depth maps, textures, and normal maps, enabling the construction of detailed 3D models. Once generated, the models are prepared for user interaction, during which the forms are distorted by forces generated through the interaction itself.
